A two-story timber housing renovation for a retiring couple, who had ordered and constructed it for their own family decades ago. After experiencing length of lives outside Japan during their working periods, they became in favor of more westernized lifestyle than what this house originally aimed for, eclectic lifestyle in Showa period in Japan. Nevertheless they decided to keep this house, and the task was to reenvision this space as a renewed hybrid of Japanese construction and western lifestyle with English antique furniture. Together with materiality, reorganizing and reusing architectural elements was a key, to sustain the time of this house yet to update the space as the one which can be enjoyed longer time in a day. A shift of the stair case entirely changed the spatial composition.
